Trinity Parish Paper
The publication of Trinity Parish Paper began in April of 1930 and lasted until its final issue in February 1933. It was Trinity’s Newsletter of the day and contained reports and updates on all the congregation’s activities including Ladies Aid, Walther League, Voter’s Meetings, School Activities, and the like. In addition to financial reports, it also included all births, confirmations, weddings, and burials.
Trinity Parish Paper appears to be an attempt on the part of church leaders to bring the congregation’s attention to a proposed building program for a new church, school and parish hall on South Second Street between Cook and Lawrence Streets. Several thousand dollars were raised towards that end, but the program floundered, probably because the nation was in the deepest part of the Great Depression, and the effort and the Parish Paper ended in 1933.
The paper also included much general news and various reports by individuals. Among these were lengthy descriptions by Teacher Fred Deising about two long trips made to the east coast and the west coast for Walther League conventions. The issues make for some very interesting reading.
For some reason the paper was printed in Decatur and was under the supervision of a prominent Trinity member, H.O. Cline.
